Holidays to Son Bou

Overview

Son Bou is a quiet village resort on Menorca’s south coast, boasting the island’s longest stretch of beach. The resort is dominated by two large hotel resorts on the coast, behind which the town centre has bars, restaurants and shops. Mahon is 30 minutes away, and there are several other towns accessible by bus including inland village Alaior. If you have a car you can drive to Cala Coves for pretty bays and great snorkelling.

Beaches

The beach at Son Bou is Menorca’s longest stretch of sand, at around 2.5km in length. Backed by sand dunes rather than spilling immediately onto the resort, this beach is distanced from the noise of the town and feels very out of the way. The main stretch of beach is dominated by families, with beach bars, pedalo rental and watersports available, while the west end is a popular nudist spot.

Things To Do

Son Bou caters well for young children; the resort has a bowling alley and a mini-train, and the Club Sant Jaime complex is open to all with a swimming pool, waterslides and a wooden maze. There are fairly regular buses to Mahon, where you can visit the gin distillery and find more shops and restaurants. It’s also easy to reach Cap de ses Penyes, a viewpoint overlooking a series of caves below.

Food And Drink

The two main hotel resorts have great all inclusive packages, so you will find that most holidaymakers staying in Son Bou choose to have meals at their hotel. However, if you do want to eat out, there are plenty of restaurants serving Spanish and international food, with enough choice to satisfy even the pickiest child. The resort also has bars with evening entertainment, and one of the island’s only nightclubs.
